Stockley's Asia
English Setter Dam at STOCKLEY KENNELS

Comments from some happy owners of Asia's past litters.

(Asia/Broker litter 2003) 01-31-05 - Went hunting Sat. Click on the link below, go to the last of the pictures and see Chuck and Mark. What the pictures don't show are several nice points by Angie AND the actual retrieve of the bird I am bending down to pick up---She actually delivered it to my hand , but I dropped it! Also what the picture doesn't show on Mark's "brush shot" is that his dog is on point in the woods and as Angie and I came up from the other side of the field Angie stopped and backed the pointers point with a full head high point stance. I wish they could have got us all in the picture. Earlier she had another back on Mark's dog, plus several other points and retrieves. She still has a long way to go--but it was kind of a break out day for her in a lot of ways. Angie has adapted well to her change. She now gets in the Car/Truck with only the word Kennel--does not get car sick anymore and has never had an accident in the house. She has become quite vocal when she wants something. For example she likes to lay in front of the fire place and if the fire is not going she will find you and begin to growl and whimper until it is going--then she lays down on her rug. The Cat-- Penny finally had to be put down and Angie still looks for her when she goes down stairs. And she really likes jogging out side with me--has not been the best of weather this winter for running outside--Darlene is in Florida for the winter so Angie and I are "home alone" I can tell she misses Darlene--she keeps looking in the bed for her in the morning. Hi to Neil tell him the main issue right now is that when we first go out hunting it takes a good hour for her to "settle down"--she just gets so excited and wants to run so hard that we'll either go by birds or she will bump into them. Once she works some of the energy off--then she gets serious--I need to let her run some before we actually go hunting--still a lot of puppy in her. Chuck Evans, Burlington, IA.

(Asia/Broker litter 2003) 07-18-03 - I just wanted to let you know how much Jay and I enjoyed meeting you and Neil (and all the pups!) yesterday, and want to thank you again so much for your advice, emails, video, and everything else! We loved our visit to Stockley Kennels and appreciate so much the time you spent visiting with us and showing us around the kennel, introducing us to your dogs and of course, to the pups! We think we are going to be calling our pup "Mason" - after the Mason Creek not too far from your house that we passed on the way home. Wanted to let you know that Mason did great on the way home, he explored around a little, ate a little food, and then just slept the whole way. Never cried at all. After exploring his 'area' outdoors and the crate for awhile when he got home, he slept soundly in the crate right away. Going back to sleep after we let him out in the middle of the night was a different story! I didn't know something so small could make so much noise!! All in all, I think he is adjusting very well to his new home and family. And we love him to death already. Jay and I both went home and spent time with him during the day and he is happy as a clam (until of course, he went back in the crate). He loves his chew toys, especially the toothbrush! Thanks so much for the suggestion - it was a hit. Thanks again for everything, and good luck with the litters that are on the way. Jackie and Jay Ashton, Charlottesville, Va.

(Asia/Broker litter 2003) UPDATE 07-20-03 Sure - feel free to use my comments! We'll try the toothpaste tonight. He is doing so well and today even ran to the door to let us know that he needed to go outside. I think the repetition is really sinking in. He's had a few accidents inside, but generally has been quite good with housebreaking. He does not go in the crate at all, and occaisionally he wanders into the crate by himself to have a rest or to explore. Hopefully he is beginning to get used to it. And he is just adorable. You really do raise the most beautiful pups! He is gaining confidence every time we go out and exploring just a bit more territory each time. We've started to incorporate some come and stay commands into our play and he responds very well. He has also responded well when we tell him 'quiet' in the kennel. Thanks for the enrollment number, and for the great advice. I hope things are going well with the other pups as they are going off to their families. Mason sends his kisses back. Jackie and Jay Ashton, Charlottesville, Va.

07-24-03 - Mason is doing great. He sleeps through the night already until about 5:00 and then cries to get out of the crate to go to the bathroom, but we are amazed already at how well sleeps through and doesn't need to get up until then. He has been picking up commands SO well too - come, stay, and sit he seems to know very well already after just a little practice. He also will go into the crate when we say "kennel" and runs to the door to let us know he needs to go outside. Has not had an accident in the house since Saturday. He is SO GOOD we can hardly believe how well he behaves, and is just the sweetest and most affectionate puppy. Thank you so much again for everything! Jackie and Jay Ashton, Charlottesville, Va.

08-12 -03 Judy: thanks so much for your nice voicemail. I hope you and Neil and all of the dogs are doing great. You are right that we have been quite busy with mason! But he is doing so well. Seems like he grows a few inches overnight each night, and he is very well behaved for a little puppy. We can't believe how good he is. A few accidents here and there, but basically housetrained, he runs to the door everytime he needs to go. Has started to love his crate and will go in when we ask and never crys. As I mentioned in my last mail, we have been teaching him SIT, STAY, COME, and now WHOA. He really has got them down quite well with only a little playful practice. We've also started to take him out on the leash, and he does great on that. He loves to chew of course but really won't chew on anything now except for his toys. He got into rocks for a short while, but we got him a few new outdoor chew toys, and got much better about never letting him near the rocks. We took him to the vet on 8-1, a great local vet who had an English Setter himself! Mason was so well behaved and seemed to even enjoy it. He had a bit of an ear infection the vet said, so he gave us something to flush his ears out with. Other than that, he has kept us busy with constant play. He is the sweetest, most affectionate, and well-behaved puppy I've ever seen. Though we might be a little biased since he is ours! Truly we could not have asked for a better dog and companion. Thanks again so much for everything!!! Jackie and Jay Ashton, Charlottesville, Va.

6-08-02 - Danny thought you would like to know that Chief (Asia/Tech litter 2001) is doing real well. We took him out for a walk last weekend to get him aquainted with Gauge (Hattie/Steed Litter 2001). They did not pay much attention to each other. Then today Carrado, Frank and Danny took them out with a few quail. they became fast friends and got along really well. My children loved Chief, he was real friendly with them. I thought he was a great dog... although no one is as great as our Gauge in my eyes. I did think Chief was very pretty and good tempered. I think it is your line of dogs. Hope all is well down there. Talk to you soon. Dan and Janine Fiers, Salisbury, Mass.

3-13-02 - I TOOK SAM (Asia/Tech litter 2001) ON HIS FIRST HUNT FRIDAY. HE HAD SEVERAL POINTS AND PARTIAL RETRIEVES (HAD TO TRADE WATER FROM BOTTLE FOR QUAIL)! JEZZIE (Maggie/Tim litter 2000) DOESN'T SEEM TO MISS A BIRD THESE DAYS AND BOTH ARE GREAT HUNTING BUDDIES. MY BRIDE OF 29 YEARS HAS FOUND A REAL SOFT SPOT FOR SAM AND HAS USED HIM EXTENSIVELY FOR PROPER BED WARMING THIS WINTER! I HOPE YOU ARE BOTH WELL AND LOOK FORWARD TO VISITING YOU WITH MY HUNTING PARTNER, BILL, AS SOON AS HIS WIFE ALLOW'S HIM TO GET HIS OWN SAMMY OR JEZZIE. THANKS AGAIN.
