Comments from some happy owners of Maggie's litters.
3-13-02 - I TOOK SAM (Asia/Tech litter 2001) ON HIS FIRST HUNT FRIDAY. HE HAD SEVERAL
POINTS AND PARTIAL RETRIEVES (HAD TO TRADE WATER FROM BOTTLE FOR QUAIL)! JEZZIE (Maggie/Tim litter 2000)
DOESN'T SEEM TO MISS A BIRD THESE DAYS AND BOTH ARE GREAT HUNTING BUDDIES. MY BRIDE OF 29 YEARS
HAS FOUND A REAL SOFT SPOT FOR SAM AND HAS USED HIM EXTENSIVELY FOR PROPER BED WARMING THIS
WINTER! I HOPE YOU ARE BOTH WELL AND LOOK FORWARD TO VISITING YOU WITH MY HUNTING PARTNER,
BILL, AS SOON AS HIS WIFE ALLOW'S HIM TO GET HIS OWN SAMMY OR JEZZIE. THANKS AGAIN. RAY AND VAL
BUSEMAN
12-25-00 - Hannah continues to do well at everything! She has put on some pounds since she
hasn't hunted lately. Actually, she is very spoiled! (Maggie/Rebel 1996 litter) The Newell's, Lovettsville, VA.
Anna pointed and held her first covey of wild quail this afternoon. All of
her training has been on wild birds, she has yet to see a pen raised Quail.
She is ten months old, eager to please and has been a pleasure to train.
Thank you for your kindness and for selling quality puppies. You will never know how
much I appreciate her after working with other dogs because she learns so
quickly. You are welcome to use my E-mail in any way. I would be honored
to serve as a reference for you in any way that I can. Thank you again. (Maggie/Toby litter) Bob Dilly, Louisa, Tn.
I just wanted to drop you a note and tell you how pleased I am with Scout.
Everywhere we go people comment on how beautiful she is. I have found a trainer
in Frisco which is only 2 miles from us where she will be trained. In talking
to you, I agree that it is important that I am available to spend time seeing
Scout and being able to work with the trainer. In just her first month, she is
already very "birdy" and she is beautiful indeed to see her ears and tail go up
when she points. She is growing like a weed and has the largest paws. She is a true joy and I
have a tremendous hunting partner and our children a life-long friend. Thanks!
(Maggie/Toby litter) Craig Hodnett, Texas
He took turns napping on our laps and enjoyed the loving, (on the way home).
He is such a good puppy already. He follows us wherever we go on the farm not even requiring a leash at this
point because he stays right by our side, his tail wagging to and fro! He is eating fine. So far though, he is much more than we
expected--I am sure much of that has to do with you. Thanks! We will keep you posted. He seems very happy.
(Maggie/Toby litter) Jack & Julie Stewart, West River, Md.
UPDATE - (7-17-01) - Charlie is a well loved, very spoiled family dog
as well as a hunting dog. Jack has solely trained him on our 26 acre farm and has done a fine
job.(Maggie/Toby litter) Jack & Julie Stewart, West River, Md.
She's such a good puppy. What little time I spend
with Maggie, I'd say Molly is going to take her personality from her
mother. She's so good. We thank you so much for her. I've never dealt with
a puppy so well behaved.
(Update - Aug. 99) I just wanted to let you know Molly is doing just wonderful. We are so
happy to have her. We have the next week off and are going to visit a
State hunting site. Just as you said, Molly is a good "kitchen dog". Whenever she's in the
house and I'm working in the kitchen she just lays on the floor and keeps
me company. Its so funny, I can be washing dishes and she will come
right over, put her head on my foot and lay down. She'll stay right
there until I make a move. We love her so much.
(Maggie/Toby litter) Vanassa Bowie, La Plata, Md.
Daisy did EXTREMELY well on the ride home. We stopped about every hour and
"wore her out" then she slept most of the next leg. Only whined about 10 minutes in the bathroom the first night.
She is a very precious girl and is very playful and getting alot of loving
from all of us...Will send a picture once in awhile....(Maggie/Toby litter) Larry Ledbetter, Manassas Park, Va.
"I couldn't be more pleased with the pup and she has already won
the hearts of everyone involved with the horse farm that I live on. She is quite a ham and loves
people. I appreciate the TLC that she received before I picked her up as it is obvious that she
has been completely socialized." - James Mann, Knoxville, Tn. (Maggie/ G.R. Storm litter)
UPDATE - "Sugar pointed her first ruffed grouse this past Friday at
the age of ten months. The bird got up about 15 yards in front of the point. That says a lot for
her nose. It was quite a sight. She didn't quite have the bird pinned down but she refused to
move when I released her. I'll take a careful dog on grouse any day." - James Mann,
Knoxville, Tn.
UPDATE - 9-22-98 - Just thought I'd let you know that Sugar is coming
along great. She placed 2nd at a fun trial that our local chapter of QU had this past Saturday
using NSTRA rules. Scenting conditions were terrible (hot and dry) and she had two finds with
the winning dog having three finds and the 3rd and 4th place dogs having 1 find. Most dogs
did not find any birds. I am also pleased to report that she is retrieving beautifully.
I put her through a low pressure force breaking routine this past summer. She is a natural
retriever but was only retrieving when she wanted to. She has responded well. Sugar is a
natural backer which makes my life really easy. She hunts cover very well for a young dog.
- James Mann
UPDATE - 12-14-98 - "I am happy to report that Sugar pointed and
retrieved her first woodcock today. She handled the bird perfectly and was solid as a rock on
point. She has a very tender mouth and didn't refuse to retrieve the woodcock as some dogs
do. (By the way, the bird was winged and she brought it back to me alive.) Her range for
grouse and woodcock is just where I want it to be. I think that she will range more with age,
but if not I am certainly not disappointed as I will have a first rate grouse, woodcock, and
singles dog. She will back a mile away. Her scores are typically 82-86 on finds, 84-88 on
retrieves, 69 or 70 on obedience (I have never had a collar on her), 67-69 on backs and 70-75
on ground coverage with one or two finds. I am very happy with her so
far and I have to keep reminding myself that she is not even two years old yet. - James W.
Mann - Knoxville, Tn.
UPDATE - 12-16-00
I also want you to know how pleased I am with Sugar. I have decided not to
trial her any more. (she is just not interested in tame birds) However, I
couldn't be more pleased with her as a grouse and woodcock dog. I have
found that a lot of good grouse dogs are not that interested in quail.
(including wild quail) Sugar seems to exhibit this trait.
I have been going to MN grouse hunting for the last two years and this year
she was absolutely on fire in the grouse woods! She pointed and held well
over ten grouse a day in MN. (I wish my shooting had been on par with her
performance) She is also really doing well on TN grouse which are much
less plentiful and harder to find. I'm averaging 9 grouse a day in TN with
about 6 pointed per day. She rarely bumps a grouse now. Usually all other
flushes are wild flushes. She pointed 10 woodcock last Saturday.
She points, relocates (not an easy proposition on grouse) and retrieves
grouse and woodcock. She has the carefullness coupled with the bird finding
drive that a good grouse dog needs. She will back a mile away! (even a
beeper collar by sound only) This year she backed the other dog (by the
beeper collar sound) from so far away we thought that we had two dogs on
point at the same time. (you should have seen the look on Sugar's face when
I tried to flush in front of her for about 30 seconds!)
As I have probably told you in the past, I am a grouse hunter and wild bird
hunter first and a field trialer second so this really means a great deal
to me to have a first rate grouse dog. Once again, thanks for the great
breeding program. I hope you have a good year trialing in 2001. - Jim Mann
"Getting these puppies was one of the best things we ever did for
my son. He is now a much more gentle person and is taking responsibility for taking care if
his puppy jobs." - Cynthia Wagoner, Locust Grove, Va. (Maggie/G.R. Storm litter)
UPDATE - "Just wanted to let you know that Jeannie and Jasmine
are doing great. Hard to believe they are almost a year old! They are both real characters
and a joy to be around. I want to thank you as I feel their gentle personalities are due so
much to the care you provided during those first 2 months." - Cynthia Wagoner, Locust
Grove, Va.
"I took him for a walk in the woods and he pointed a woodcock from
about 25 yards away. I think he is going to be a good one. He also has been retrieving a
ball every time I throw it. Thanks again. - Donny Armentrout, Woodbridge, Va. (Maggie/G.R.
Storm litter)
UPDATE - Nov. 28th, 1998 - Brewster took first place in the 2 and
under class at Madison County Wildlife Committe Fun Trial in Madison Heights, Va. There
were approximately 26 dogs entered in the whole trial. Eight dogs in the two and under class.
Brewster's bird count now is rapidly approaching 500. - Donny Armentrout, Woodbridge, Va.
